Automatika Camera Viewer

Privacy, kept close.

The app is designed to view cameras directly from your device. Camera details, credentials, snapshots and live media are not sent to Automatika servers. This policy explains exactly what the app handles, where it goes and what you can control.

Effective 7 August 2026

01

Local by design

Your catalog and camera access details remain on the device where the app runs.

02

No tracking

No accounts, advertising, analytics, tracking SDKs or developer-operated cloud.

03

Direct connections

Discovery and viewing connect your device directly to the cameras you choose.

1. Scope and controller

This policy applies to Automatika Camera Viewer, shown as Cameras Viewer on mobile devices, application identifier it.automatika.onvifViewer (the “App”).

Automatika s.r.l. is the developer and data controller for personal data it actually receives, such as a support request. The App’s camera catalog and media remain under your control on your device and are not received by Automatika.

2. Data the App handles

To provide its features, the App processes the following information locally. Some device identifiers may be personal data when they can be linked to a person or household.

Camera catalog and connection data

Camera name, host or IP address, ports, ONVIF service address, RTSP and snapshot addresses, username, favorite status, discovery status and last-seen time.

Camera and network identifiers

Local network interface names and addresses, plus information returned by a camera such as manufacturer, model, serial number, firmware version and MAC address.

Credentials

The camera username and password you enter. Passwords entered in the dedicated password field are kept separately in the operating system’s secure credential storage where that service is available.

Camera media

Live video, any audio carried by the selected stream, and JPEG snapshots. The App displays this media and temporarily buffers it in memory; it does not offer cloud upload or recording.

Local diagnostics

Connection errors and discovery diagnostics, which may include a local network interface name and IP address, can appear in device or application logs. These logs are not automatically sent to Automatika.

The App does not request your location, device camera, microphone, contacts or photo library. It does not create a user account or collect advertising identifiers, usage analytics or precise location data.

3. Where data goes

ONVIF discovery sends multicast and broadcast probes on connected local IPv4 networks. Cameras respond directly to your device. ONVIF requests, snapshots and RTSP streams then travel directly between your device and the configured camera or media address. Automatika does not proxy or receive these connections.

If you manually configure an Internet-accessible host or RTSP address, the App will connect to that address. The endpoint operator may therefore receive your IP address, camera credentials and request details. You decide which endpoints to configure; their handling of data is governed by their own privacy and security terms.

4. Storage, retention and deletion

  • Catalog data stays in the App’s private local preferences until you remove the camera or erase the App’s data.
  • Passwords stay in the OS secure credential store, when available, until you remove the related camera or erase the App’s data. If secure storage is unavailable, the App does not fall back to saving the password as plain text and may ask for it again.
  • Snapshots, thumbnails and live media are held temporarily in memory for display and are discarded as screens close or the App exits. The App does not save them to your photo library or a developer cloud.
  • Diagnostic logs remain only as long as the operating system or development environment retains them.

Use Remove camera to delete a camera and its saved password. You can delete all App data by using the operating system’s app-storage controls or by uninstalling the App. Copies in device or computer backups may remain until those backups expire or are deleted; Android application backup is disabled by the App.

Important: a password typed into the dedicated password field is protected separately. If you instead embed credentials directly in an RTSP URL (for example, rtsp://user:••••@camera/stream), that whole URL is part of the ordinary local catalog. Avoid credentials in URLs and use the username and password fields instead.

5. Network permissions and security

The App needs network, Wi-Fi state and multicast access to find and connect to cameras. A wake-lock permission can keep playback active. On Apple platforms, the operating system may ask you to allow Local Network access. “Internet” network permission enables TCP and UDP communication; it does not mean the App sends data to an Automatika cloud.

Camera security depends on the protocol and camera configuration. Many cameras use unencrypted HTTP or RTSP. Credentials and camera images may then be exposed to people or systems able to observe that network, even when an authentication challenge or password digest is used. Prefer a trusted private network, strong unique camera credentials, current camera firmware, network isolation and HTTPS or another secure tunnel where supported.

For compatibility with cameras using self-signed HTTPS certificates, the App may accept a certificate that is not issued by a public certificate authority. The connection can still be encrypted, but it does not provide the same assurance of the camera’s identity as a publicly trusted certificate.

6. Purposes and legal basis

The App locally processes connection settings, identifiers, credentials and media only to discover cameras, remember your choices, authenticate to them and display the media you request. Where the GDPR applies to Automatika’s role, this processing is necessary to provide the App functions you request (Article 6(1)(b)) and to pursue the legitimate interests of keeping the App functional and secure (Article 6(1)(f)).

If you contact Automatika, we process your name, contact details, message and any information you choose to provide to answer you, provide support, protect our legal rights and comply with applicable obligations. We retain that correspondence only as long as needed for those purposes and any required legal retention period.

7. Third parties, sale and transfers

The App contains no advertising, analytics or third-party tracking SDKs. Automatika does not sell camera data, credentials or viewing activity, and the App does not send them to marketing partners. There are no developer-operated server transfers, international or otherwise, for normal App use.

Your operating system supplies local storage, secure credential storage and media playback components. The store from which you obtain the App (for example, Apple App Store or Google Play) may independently process download, account, payment or device diagnostic data under its own policy. Camera manufacturers and any endpoint you configure may also process direct connection data independently.

8. If you operate the cameras

Automatika provides the viewing tool but does not decide where your cameras point or why people are recorded. The person or organisation operating the cameras is responsible for the lawfulness of surveillance and for appropriate notices, permissions, access controls, retention rules and respect for the rights of people who may appear in the footage. In a workplace or commercial setting, that operator will generally be the controller of the footage, not Automatika.

9. Children

The App is a camera administration and viewing utility and is not directed to children. Automatika does not knowingly collect children’s personal data through the App. Camera operators remain responsible for any footage involving minors.

10. Your privacy rights

Depending on applicable law, you may have rights to information, access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability and objection, and the right to complain to a supervisory authority. In Italy, the authority is the Garante per la protezione dei dati personali.

Because Automatika does not receive your local camera catalog, credentials or media, it cannot retrieve or delete them remotely. You can view or correct camera settings in the App and erase them as described above. For personal data you have sent to Automatika directly, email us to exercise an applicable right. We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request.

11. Changes and contact

We may update this policy when the App or legal requirements change. We will revise the effective date above and, where appropriate, provide additional notice. Material changes do not retroactively change how previously collected data is handled without a valid legal basis.
